Sure, It Feels Like a Scuba Suit, But I Wouldn't Take Your Laptop Swimming
Product: Laptop Sleeve 17" - Fiery Orange Manufacturer: Built NY Price: $40.00 For those times when you need to protect your laptop, but you don't want to haul round a big heavy laptop bag - Built NY has the simple Laptop Sleeve to help you out. The sleeve is made of neoprene with a colorful outside and black inside. The zipper is plastic with a metal pull. It can hold up to a 17" laptop, as long as the machine isn't too thick. A Macbook Pro fits fine, where as our ASUS G2S did not fit in the sleeve.

The sleeve seems to be put together of quality materials. The stitching is WW shaped and is tight. I was unable to separate the seams enough to see light through it, a good sign. The plastic that the zipper is made of is thick and seems strong. I don't think that a person would ever have to worry about the zipper failing on this sleeve.

The neoprene is relatively thick and looks like it would protect the laptop well from bumps. The issue I have with this sleeve is that when sliding my laptop in and out, the zipper lays against the laptop casing which could easily scratch it. With my Macbook Pro's rough aluminum covering, the zipper won't scratch the case easily. However, most PC laptops have a shiny plastic covering which is easily scratched. There is a round neoprene bumper to protect your computer, it is under the zipper and works well IF you remember to roll the zipper back before sliding your machine in or out.
If you are really good at remembering to do things like rolling the zipper back, this sleeve could work well. It would be very useful as a protective measure when tossing (not literally!) your laptop into your backpack or suitcase. It should protect your machine from a light moisture if you need to run from the car to the house in light rain. I didn't test moisture resistance personally, so if that is your goal proceed with caution. The Review: The Good: Nice neoprene sleeve with adequate padding if you need to protect your laptop from scratches/taps/fingerprints while hauling it in your backpack or carrying it without a lot of added bulk.
The Bad: There is no handle or strap, so it is hard to "grab and go" with this sleeve. You really need to pick it up like you would if your laptop had no sleeve on it.
The Ugly: That zipper is very scary. If you remember to roll it back before sliding your laptop in and out, no issues - but who remembers that? If you have a touchy plastic shell on your laptop, expect light scratches when using this sleeve.
Overall: Good for padding inside your backpack, but if you are always in a hurry you might want to look at the non-zippered version or you'll have scratches on your laptop.
