Game Review - Fable 2
Written by LJParker

Once Upon a Console...

Title: Fable 2
Developer/Publisher: Lionhead/Microsoft
Platforms: XBOX 360
Release Date: 10/21/2008
Number of Players: 1, 2-player Co-Op w/Xbox Live!

Like the original Fable, you start as a child. I'm not really sure what age, 9 maybe. When you begin the game you can choose to be a girl or a boy. I find that a nice change and it is interesting that they put the extra effort in to actually make the game a bit different depending on what you choose. There isn't much time spent "growing up", the real gameplay starts when your character is a teenager/young adult. From then on your choices will very much affect gameplay and character appearance. Every choice you make really does make a difference (in certain places) and there is no way to undo it.

Why pay full price? Or that pesky shipping thing either?

I'd like to take a moment to focus everyone's attention to the Featured Advertisers section of the site. Newly added this month is www.Gamerzoutlet.com . If you're looking for pre-played or heavily discounted console games you really should take a few moments to check the site out. The prices are a hell of a lot better than some of the retail stores "used" prices!

Also, I'd like to thank www.Shape5.com for some of the fine coding and features you see on this site. I thought it just fair to give credit where credit is due.

Movie News - Fascinating...

For those of you who missed SynapticM3's heads-up about the new Star Trek movie trailer...it's up now on Paramount's official page for the movie, which itself has been overhauled (click here to watch it).

And...good lord!

I'd previously seen the trailer right in front of "Quantum of Solace", and it was amazing.  Watching it again to pick up on everything I missed in my original squeeing, it looks like J.J. Abrams and company are looking to give this modern reboot a touch of the classic's campy style and dialogue while adding new depth to established characters, including what looks to be a good amount of tense moments when Kirk and Spock share the limelight on the silver screen.

Oh...and Uhura takes her top off.

"Star Trek" seeks to begin 2009's summer movie season with a bang.  The movie's slated to hit theaters on May 8th.

Film Review - Quantum of Solace

I expect you to die...

If there were any fears that the success of "Casino Royale", the highly-acclaimed reboot of Ian Fleming's "007" series, was a fluke, you may now take those worries and drown them under three measures of gin, one measure of vodka and a half-measure of Kina Lillet.

Shaken, of course.  Much like Daniel Craig's interpretation of Fleming's timeless hero, James Bond.

"Quantum of Solace" reunites us with an internally scarred Bond mere minutes after his "meeting" with Mr. White at the end of "Casino Royale", and opens with a car chase through the mountains of Italy.  While falling a little short of being the greatest filmed chase scene ever (I personally give that honor to "Ronin"), it still touched that side of me that always longed to see a classic action scene that was more than just a mish-mash of CGI and big, pretty booms.  This one was vintage Bond, and each action scene that followed never disappointed.

To Boldly Go... Into HD.

Chances are you've already seen the teaser trailer for the new J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek movie. The story of the early years of James T. Kirk and his crew of the USS Enterprise slated for release in May 2009. Well, how about the unofficially released one that's been doing laps around the net?

The official trailer is going online Monday in HD. But for those of us who can't wait, myself included, there's good news. In classic hand held camera bootleg fashion it's out now on Youtube. So until May 2009, live long and prosper.

Movie News - New "Watchmen" Trailer Online!

"The whores and the politicians shall look up and shout "Save us!"

The new trailer for the highly anticipated "Watchmen" movie is now online.  Those wishing to gawk at it can head over to the Watchmen Movie site.

Though it doesn't have the same emotional impact as the first trailer that hit, it's still gives you an amazing glimpse of what's to come.  The film combines the directorial talents of Zack Snyder ("300") with what looks to be an exceptional translation of the source material by David Hayter ("X-Men", "X2") and Alex Tse.

For the uninitiated, read Malachi's post about why you should be watching the "Watchmen".

Now, if you'll excuse me...I need to go mop the drool off my keys.

Music Review - Will You Open Pandora's Box?
Written by Katie Atwood

It's all right there in the box.

I think it's safe to say that everyone has some sort of ritual in the morning.  Some people drag themselves out of bed, drag themselves into the shower, then rush to get dressed, run out the door, fight traffic and barely make it to work, avoiding the boss so you don't appear disheveled.  Oh wait! That's me!  But I'm sure the majority of you can relate to part or all of my morning routine.  One thing I did leave out is that after successfully avoiding my boss's look of unapproval, I log onto my computer and with a couple of clicks, I start the soundtrack of my day, produced by Pandora's Box.

Frankly, my dear...

It is 3am on November 13, 2008.  Thousands of bleary-eyed video geeks roll out of bed and sit staring at the computer screen. Waiting. Watching the countdown, shaking with anticipation. Then finally it happens and servers start crashing. The excitement is in the air!

Is it the end of world? Nope.  It is, however, the start of a new world.

Book Review - Light
Written by SamRam
Thursday, 13 November 2008 14:49

Some books are better left unwritten

M. John Harrison's "Light" nearly hit that category, if it wasn't for an epiphany I had.

The book offers the reader three different characters.  Michael Kearney, a physicist and serial killer in present-day Earth, struggles against a force that follows him at every turn.  Meanwhile, in a future hundreds of years beyond ours, two other characters seek an escape of their own.  Seria Mau Genlicher has given up her body--and, subsequently, her humanity--to pilot a highly advanced starship while running from her alien "employer".  And Ed Chianese is a man who's seen it all, but has become disillusioned with the universe, choosing to hide from those he's indebted to through virtual reality tanks.  Between them all is a mysterious being known as the "Shrander" and a spatial anomaly known at the Kefahuchi Tract, which bathes the future galaxy in a perpetual ocean of light.

Entertainment News - Monopoly

Seriously? Seriously?!

Only in some bizarre parallel universe is a story-less board game turned into a feature film. Only in our very own universe is Ridley Scott attached to the Monopoly film.

Seriously.

For those under rocks, Ridley Scott's directing credits include Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, and American Gangster. You know, to name a few of the smaller flicks he's worked on that you may not have seen... Ridley Scott, along with brother Tony, is one of those directors that will drive me to see a movie simply because I noticed his name as Director. Why god, why is this man directing the Monopoly movie?!

On another note, if the Dog and the Shoe don't make it into the final cut of the film, I'm going to be pissed. I mean, how can you have Monopoly without the Dog?

Newsflash

Forums Are Now Live!

After an idiotic attempt to hack our sites by some kids, GTW is back up. Give it a couple days before each feature is reactivated. As for the "hackers", they left BIG fingerprints everywhere and have been reported to the IC3, FBI, and Interpol.
